Adidas Sneakers
It's hard to deny that when it comes to designing legendary sneakers, Adidas is at the top of the class. In fact, together with their American competitors Nike, they've established themselves so firmly in the sneaker game that together they account for more than half of global sneaker sales.
The key to Adidas' success in the sneaker game
The story behind Adidas' success actually started with a breakup between two brothers who made shoes together. The breakup meant that Rudolf Dassler ended up going his own way and founding PUMA, whereas Adolf Dassler chose to found Germany's biggest sports brand, Adidas.
In 1936, when Adolf was working alone, he asked athlete Jesse Owens if he would like to run in his shoes at that year's Berlin Olympics. Jesse ended up winning four gold medals and from that day on, Adolf's shoe work became coveted among the greatest athletes. This initial success laid the foundations for Adidas as a global player in the sneaker game.
In the 70s, you could say that two Adidas sneakers were born that would later give the brand legendary status. It was during this decade that they designed both their iconic Adidas Superstar and the classic Stan Smith. These two models are still popular today, and it's amazing how many interpretations have been made of the two silhouettes since then.
