Air Jordan 2

The Air Jordan 2 is the second installment in Michael Jordan’s signature sneaker line. What sets this model apart from its predecessor, the Air Jordan 1, is its bold design choice—the absence of the iconic Nike Swoosh on the sides. Instead, the sneaker proudly features the Jordan Wings logo, giving it a distinct and premium look.

The History of Air Jordan 2

The Air Jordan 2 was released in 1985, just a year after the wildly successful Air Jordan 1. The minds behind the design were Peter Moore, the creator of the Air Jordan 1, and Bruce Kilgore, the designer of the Air Force 1. The most striking aspect of the Air Jordan 2 was, and still is, the absence of the iconic Nike Swoosh—instead, the sneaker was adorned with the Jordan Wings logo, further emphasizing its exclusivity.

Another major difference between the Air Jordan 1 and Air Jordan 2 was the price. Upon its release, the Air Jordan 1 retailed for $65, while the Air Jordan 2 was introduced at $100. This significant price increase was due to Nike’s ambition to create the most luxurious sneaker ever, using premium materials. Additionally, the Air Jordan 2 was exclusively manufactured in Italy, and in its first two months, it was only available in 30 stores across 19 major cities—a move that further underscored its exclusivity.

Air Jordan 2 Introduced Luxury to the Sneaker World

The Air Jordan 2 quickly gained a reputation as a luxury sneaker, standing out with sophisticated and stylish details. Its premium leather upper not only added visual appeal but also provided enhanced support and comfort. The sneaker was further distinguished by its faux iguana-skin texture, reinforcing its elevated status in the sneaker world.

Unlike the Air Jordan 1, which debuted in over 20 colorways, the Air Jordan 2 was originally released in just two versions:

  • A white sneaker with a black midsole and black laces, referred to as the "Away" edition
  • A white sneaker with red accents, known as the "Home" edition

Exclusive Collaborations

The Air Jordan 2 has been a part of numerous high-profile collaborations, including artistic partnerships with Nina Chanel Abney and fashion powerhouses like Off-White and A Ma Maniére. These collaborations prove that the Air Jordan 2 holds massive potential as a luxury sneaker, making it a sought-after silhouette for both sneakerheads and fashion enthusiasts.

Air Jordan 2 x A Ma Maniére

A Ma Maniére has collaborated on multiple Jordan Brand projects, and their take on the Air Jordan 2 is nothing short of iconic. The brand’s name, meaning "My Way" in French, is inspired by Parisian culture and high fashion. Known for its luxury streetwear and footwear curation, A Ma Maniére designed a vintage-inspired Air Jordan 2 featuring burgundy details and a cracked white leather upper. The result is the Air Jordan 2 A Ma Maniére "Airness", a sneaker that blends retro aesthetics with modern luxury—making it a true collector’s item.
